In 2012, Frida Lisa Carstensen Jersø was in an accident that left her paralyzed. Since then, she has undergone more than a hundred surgeries, countless medical treatments, and radiation therapy. Much of her adult life has been spent in hospitals.

Through raw photographic self-portraits and intimate glimpses from her hospital stays, Jersø documents the experience of illness and contrasts it with the freedom and vitality of life beyond the hospital walls. The project reveals hidden aspects of disability and chronic illness—realities that often remain invisible—and challenges traditional notions of what it means to be young and chronically ill.

Following the publication of her acclaimed book “Frida Forever” by Disko Bay, Frida Lisa Carstensen Jersø’s work has received significant attention in both Danish and international media. Frida Forever embraces the space between sickness and youth—or the coexistence of both. From sterile hospital rooms to spontaneous snapshots of life outside, Jersø uses a raw yet playful visual language to tell a story that is both personal and vulnerable.

This exhibition marks the first opportunity to experience “Frida Forever” as a solo show in Denmark. "Frida Forever” offers a powerful and deeply personal look at life with disability and chronic illness—and the many challenges that come with it.
